MENTAL ILLNESS,

FREQUENCY

Mental Illness, touches everyone, nearly half of all Australians have a risk of mental illness during their lifetime.

COSTS

Mental Illness, costs billions of dollars annually, the cost in lives lost or severely compromised is much greater.

SUICIDE

Suicide is the leading cause of death among young Australians, some people with Mental Illness, are never diagnosed or treated.

BLAME

Frequently society’s response to mental illness is to assign blame; people are marginalised, neglected, vilified and incarcerated.

STIGMA

People with Mental Illness are shamed with negative or discriminatory attitudes by others, people develop self-stigma including internalized shame.

TREATABLE

Mental Illness, can be treated, people respond best to treatments that are timely and effective.

SYSTEM 

UNMET NEED*

In 2022-23, around 230,500 people in Australia with a severe mental health condition (aged 12 to 64 years) were unable to access mental health supports.

PSYCHIATRY

Public psychiatry is in crisis, community psychiatrists won’t bulk bill.

PSYCHOLOGY

Ten mental health care plan sessions for people are useful but insufficient.

NDIS

Increasingly there are fewer NDIS psychosocial plans being offered for people, people with NDIS psychosocial plans are having their plan funding reduced and service reviews refused.

ACCESS

Navigating the mental health system is difficult, often services are cold and unsupportive.

SUPPORT SERVICE

ALLIANCE

MENTOR won’t give up, MENTOR will keep going until the goals are achieved.

OUTCOMES

MENTOR is outcome focussed. People expect outcomes on the journey toward recovery, even small increments need to be celebrated.

CONFIDENCE

People will know that MENTOR will get them to the point where they can achieve their own recovery.
